MCP server for AI assistants
Skinvesting runs a public, read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at https://www.skinvesting.gg/mcp. Connect it to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own agent and it can look up live CS2 skin prices across marketplaces, pull price history and item statistics, read the SKINX index and every collection and weapon index, compare marketplaces, and read our blog and automated market reports — the same data this website renders, in machine-readable form. No API key, no account, no cost. The server is stateless: every request is one question and one answer.
Connect
Endpoint: https://www.skinvesting.gg/mcp (transport: Streamable HTTP, JSON responses, no authentication). Claude Code (terminal): claude mcp add --transport http skinvesting https://www.skinvesting.gg/mcp Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf and most other clients accept a JSON server entry: { "mcpServers": { "skinvesting": { "type": "http", "url": "https://www.skinvesting.gg/mcp" } } } ChatGPT (developer mode / custom connectors): add a new MCP connector with the URL above and no authentication. Opening https://www.skinvesting.gg/mcp in a browser returns a JSON self-description with every tool and these connection snippets.
Tools: items and prices
search_items — find skins, knives, gloves, stickers, cases and other items by free text, category, weapon, rarity or wear. One row per skin with the current cheapest-to-highest live price range per variant class (normal, StatTrak™, Souvenir), the 7-day change and every variant's exact name. Sort by relevance, price, popularity, or 7-day gainers and losers. get_item_prices — the current lowest asking price on every listed marketplace for one item variant, with listing counts, observation times and tracked buy links; the cheapest and highest venue, the spread, the 7-day change, and the cheapest price of every sibling variant (other wears, StatTrak™, Souvenir, Doppler phases). get_price_history — price series for one variant: the cheapest close per time bucket (what the item page charts) or one series per marketplace. Preset ranges from 24 hours to all time, or explicit from/to dates. Sub-daily detail exists for the last 45 days; daily history is permanent. get_item_stats — all-time high and low with dates, 30-day volatility, liquidity rank among all tracked skins, which marketplaces were cheapest most often over 30 days, and the current cheapest price.
Tools: market, indices and marketplaces
get_market_index — the SKINX index (default) or any collection or weapon index by id or label ("weapon:ak-47", "collection:the-x-ray-collection", or simply "AK-47"): current value, change over the requested range, high and low, and the series. list_market_indices — every published collection and weapon index with value, 7-day and 30-day change and basket size; filter and sort. get_market_overview — items tracked, marketplaces with live prices in the last 24 hours, tracked market cap, item counts per type, SKINX with 24-hour, 7-day and 30-day change, and the freshness of every price source. get_top_movers — the catalogue-wide 7-day gainers or losers, optionally per category, with the same exclusions as the site (items under €5 a week ago, graded collectibles and Souvenir weapons sit out). list_marketplaces — the marketplaces we compare, with payment methods, verification status and live statistics: items priced, share of the catalogue covered, how often the venue is cheapest, its typical premium over the cheapest offer, and total listings. compare_marketplaces — head-to-head of two marketplaces over the items both price right now: who is cheaper how often, the median price ratio, and the same split per item type.
Tools: blog and market reports
list_blog_posts / get_blog_post — everything the blog publishes, newest first: hand-written articles and the automated weekly and monthly CS2 market reports, each flagged by source, and the full published text of any entry. list_market_reports / get_market_report — the automated reports by period. get_market_report returns the published prose, the structured data the prose was written from, or both: SKINX over the period, market breadth, the top 25 gainers and losers with start and end prices, supply build-ups and drawdowns, category medians, and the inclusion rules that produced them. Resources: skinvesting://methodology (how every figure is computed) and skinvesting://about.
Naming items
Tools take the Steam market name, for example "AK-47 | Redline (Field-Tested)", "★ Karambit | Doppler (Factory New)" or "StatTrak™ AWP | Asiimov (Battle-Scarred)". Loose names work too — "ak47 redline ft" or "karambit doppler" with phase "ruby" — and every answer states what was matched and which other items also matched, so an assistant can confirm with you when a guess looks off. Wear accepts full names or the usual abbreviations (FN, MW, FT, WW, BS); StatTrak™, Souvenir and Doppler phases are separate options.
How to read the data
All prices are in euros; marketplaces that quote in US dollars or yuan are converted at the ECB daily rate. Timestamps are UTC. Prices are live lowest asking prices observed in the last 24 hours — listings, not trades — refreshed every 5 to 30 minutes depending on the marketplace. Steam Community Market prices include Steam's buyer fee and cannot be cashed out. The live offers list is restricted to the marketplaces we list for comparison; reference-only venues that EU buyers cannot use are hidden unless an assistant asks for them explicitly, and are then flagged. When our price API is unreachable the server returns an error rather than an empty result, so an assistant never mistakes an outage for "no offers". Every answer carries the page URL it was derived from — please cite it.
Fair use
The server is free for interactive assistant use and reasonable automation. Each tool call is one request; results are cached for five minutes on our side, so polling faster than that returns the same numbers. Bulk extraction of the whole catalogue is not what this endpoint is for — if you need feeds, snapshots or guaranteed throughput, the Data API on our pricing page is the right product, and we are happy to talk. The service is provided as is and may change; the tool list is versioned in the server's self-description.
The MCP server is a read-only data service. Prices are observed marketplace listings, not completed sales, and nothing here is financial advice. A null value means the data cannot support a number — never zero.
